Right now, I am sitting in the kitchen just in ear shot of Eric and two stellar missionaries, Elder Christensen and Elder Neuplau who have come to demonstrate for Eric how to teach the 1st discussion from Preach My Gospel. These two missionaries are angels... literally angels sent by a loving Heavenly Father in our time of need. There are no two better missionaries to help my son prepare for his mission.
Eric won't be going to the MTC before leaving to serve his mission.
Elder Christensen is just a wonderful loving amazing young man. He worked with an elder who had aspergers before being paired with Elder Neuplau. He is loving and patient...
The fact that these two elders are here at this time is a testimony of God's awareness and love of Eric and of us.... He hears our prayers and does all He can to help us succeed.
I am so grateful.
We are planning special things to send Eric off on his mission with love.
We will be having a special dinner. We will look up information about St George mission. I will write these "facts" up on pieces of paper and tape them to the bottom of the dining room chairs. Everyone will share their "fact." We will have fun talking about his mission. We will also open up a Utah flag and tell him that we will have it flying the whole time he is gone.
Then ahead of time, I will ask family members and special people in Eric's life to write a note of encouragement, a special memory and why they think Eric will make a good missionary.. what wonderful traits he has that will make him a great missionary. I will put these notes in a book with pictures.. and also include family pictures etc.
We will share the story of the first person to join the church in our family from a few branches of the family and talk about the impact of missionary work.
We will put our family picture in a copy of the Book of Mormon with a testimony that Eric can give away while serving his mission.
We will also give him gifts.. such as a shoe shine kit, a book of simple recipes, pillowcase, etc etc
We will end the dinner with a father's blessing.
We will also ahead of time have a famiy picture... a very dignified one.. with suits and all down at Memory Grove by marble pillars.. I like this idea.. I saw someone else do it.
I am looking forward to having a missionary son!!! I pray all will go well.
I am going to go to the temple once a week while Eric is serving his mission.
I am going to live as close to the spirit as I can. I will love and serve others and do all I can to be worthy of miracles and blessings. I will be submissive to the Lord's will and what this mortal life brings to me.. and I will be patient as I experience the breadth and depth of all human emotions.. the suffering and the joy and never turn against God. I don't know what will happen but it will all be ok.
