Jacob's Birthday Party

It was a perfect day for a birthday party!  After what seemed like a winter that would never end, suddenly we had this perfect spring day.  There was that magic feeling in the air as everyone headed out doors.  The kids were all excited and it was a perfect day for a birthday party!

This birthday party for Jacob was all about THINGS THAT FLY!

First, we went to a great park near our house and Jonathan, who is an expert paper airplane maker showed everyone how to make paper airplanes and we had a paper airplane flying contest.   There was a perfect breeze that made the airplanes do loop de loops and hover and drift further than I had ever seen.  Thank you Jonathan for being such a willing and awesome helper in this activity!

Next, Steve shot off a rocket!  It is always exciting to light that fuse, wait with anticipation, hear the whizz and see the rocket take off at great speed very high into the sky, then pop open and see the parachute fall to the ground.  The kids raced with gleeful happiness to try to reach the fallen parachute first.

After that, the kids played a great game of kick soccer.

Following that, Steve flew his model airplane.  It has a wing span of about 4 feet so it was very exciting for the kids to see.  Because it was a slightly blustery day, it was an exciting flight for Steve to fly as he thought his plane would crash each time the breeze picked up.  What a great dad Steve is!   What fun !

Next, we had our traditional donut activity.   The kids always love this!

After a very crazy fun ride back home, all the kids played in the backyard for a bit.  Then we served pizza and veggies and fruit.  After a fun detective game, Jacob opened his presents.  He has such nice friends!

We had a new cake ...it was an icecream sandwich cake.  It was a real hit!    The kids loved this cake--especially the birthday boy!

To end the party, we had a movie time.  We showed Kung Fu Panda and all the boys and one girl (Ella Wilhite)  chilled out downstairs together.  This was a long party--about 5 hours long..which is what we do for the 8th birthday party.  We make it a late over!  But since it was Saturday night, we ended this party between 9:30 pm and 10 pm.

Happy Birthday Jacob!   We love you and hope your birthday party was fun!
